It’s interesting. I was listening this morning to a “new age spirituality” radio blog. The leader was discussing “guidance” and “how you know you are being guided” by God (or they may say, your divine or your Higher Power). This particular radio blog seemed directed towards our young people. It’s as if, they could not find God in Christianity – but are searching for God through “new age” methods. Well, those “new age methods” are the same methods I use as a Christian to receive guidance. I have and do receive guidance through stillness. Meditation. “Listening”. Waiting patiently for God to answer me. Being “present” in His presence. I have received guidance in a book that “jumped off the shelf” at me. In a news article or report on television. Certainly through friends. It has been “just the answer that I was looking for” at a particular time. I agree that “when we are being authentic and not playing someone else’s role”, that we are the most susceptible to God’s word.
How is it that the “new age” philosophy is gaining ground with some of our young people….when we agree on these methods of guidance. Do we need to change our language? I think the next time that I am working with a group of young people, I’ll tell them how Christ “downloads” information to my heart.
