I've had enough!

Do you ever want to throw your hands up in the air and run away? Have you ever been physically exhausted and in all your efforts – felt totally alone? So did Elijah – almost 3000 years ago.  Seems some things never change.

Elijah was a great prophet.  God was with him and through him performed many miracles.  But, when Jezebel threatened to kill him, Elijah lost all faith and courage. Exhausted, he ran into the desert scared to death. “I’ve had enough Lord”, he cried.  “I’m no better than anyone else.”

Sound familiar? Sometimes, we think our work is meaningless and nothing we do makes any difference.  What Elijah didn’t know was there were 7,000 other people who believed as he did.  I wonder what it is that you don’t know.

God sent Elijah an angel who brought him food to build up his strength.  After he ate, he was able to travel 40 more days. Where is God sending you nourishment?  What is He offering you that will restore your strength? Can you slow down long enough to take it in?

God also told Elijah to stand and watch because He himself was going to show up in his life. Elijah expected God in the strength of a storm, the power of the wind, the force of an earthquake and the heat of a fire……but God showed up in a “whisper”.  Where is He whispering to you?  What fire, strength and force have you been looking for Him …….. and the whole time, tenderly,  He’s been right there with you.

When you’ve had enough, don’t run into the desert.  Never be afraid and feel that you are alone.   Expect Him to show up with all the nourishment you need to complete your work.  And, rest in His gentle whispers that will surround you every day of your life.
