Yesterday, I was busy reading and studying my homework. Seminary is tough. “How can they give us 300 pages to read in just a few days?” Looking through the text and surfing back and forth through my Bible, my mind was racing. John – Matthew – Luke….where is that particular passage? I’ve got to enter this post and respond to that one…… I’ve got multiple papers due……
And, then suddenly, I got a glimpse of hundreds of black birds – circling overhead – diving into a giant shaded oak tree and it was as if I was Martha in the story of Mary and Martha with Jesus. Martha was so busy getting the house ready; she missed the presence of Jesus. Mary, at His feet had figured it out.
Even, though I was doing work for Him – I was missing Him. In His very essence. About that time, those hundreds of birds took
flight and I heard this giant swoosh of their wings. I imagined the angels that surround Him.
Yes Lord, thank you for bringing me back to You first and foremost. Please keep me centered on what really matters in my life. The rest will come.
“As Jesus and his disciples were on their way, he came to a village where a woman named Martha opened her home to Him. She had a sister called Mary, who sat at the Lord’s feet listening to what he said. But Martha was distracted by all the preparations that had to be made. She came to Him and asked, “Lord, don’t you care that my sister has left me to do the work by myself? Tell her to help me!” “Martha, Martha,” the Lord answered, “You are worried and upset about many things, but only one thing is needed. Mary has chosen what is better, and it will not be taken away from her.” Luke 10:38-42
