Miracles come to you and through you.
I was asked to be the speaker for “Heavenly Angels”. It was their first annual fund raiser for children with special needs. What an honor. I was so humbled that I would be asked. Who am I to speak to such a beloved and called group of parents who live daily with personal challenges, hard work, self sacrifice and unconditional love? Yet, without question, that “inner voice” jumped “yes”!
Then came the work. Without being a parent of a special needs child, I had some preparing to do! I read books and blogs and visited various websites. I talked to many mothers, dads, grandparents and children. With all my notes and quotes in front of me, I sat down to write my speech.
And, it would not come.
Not as a speech, but as lyrics….rhyming words….. No matter how hard I tried, my words would rhyme.
At bedtime and in the middle of the night, I would “hear” “see” and “be”, “boy” and “Coy”…….then … finally, I stopped trying and completely surrendered myself to God’s gentle whisper. When I stopped trying to do it by myself, the words began to flow.
Here’s my poem. (My poem? Well, I gave God the hands to write it and the voice to speak it) It’s a poem written for the mama’s. Now, the dad’s, grandparents and siblings can also be used for this poem….but I wrote it for the mama’s. It’s called “Don’t Cry for Me Mama”
Don’t cry for me mama
God has a purpose for my life
And, I don’t have to tell you
He does everything just right
I am God’s creation
And I am whole and free
You see my little spirit
Lives here inside of me
I can see some sights
That right now you can’t see
I can hear the Angels
Why, they completely cover me
I had a choice in heaven
God showed me all around
The hearts of all His mamas
And some..they wore a crown
So I asked Him, Lord, if it’s ok..
Can I have that spirit there?
It doesn’t take a scientist
To see she really cares
And God said, “Absolutely”
She’s just the very best
So, you be all that I created
And, let Me do the rest
You may have to do some pushing
Her path gets awfully steep
But you’re the one that has the faith
To know love is broad and deep
I, in my infinite wisdom
Know what is best for you
And, out of all the mamas
She ‘s the only one that will do
So, you trust Him mama
Have peace from the very start
God will never leave me
He lives within my heart
Completely surrender. All of it.
Christ told us “Come to me all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you and learn from me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For my yoke is easy and my burden is light.”
Blessings on this Easter Day.
