Heart Work: To Listen and Love and Nuture

It’s been awhile since I blogged or posted anything for a newsletter. You see, I’ve been busy with Faith House. She’s a full time job – if I let her. I love to garden, and if I don’t watch out – that’s all I will do. Garden. Weed. Plant. Water.

But then I have to realize, when I’m doing that kind of work, I’m not doing anything to help someone draw closer to Jesus Christ. That’s my heart work. To listen and love. To share what God has done for me and help them discern what God is wanting to do for them.

Martha! Martha! Jesus cried. Remember the story of the two sisters? One was busy preparing a place for people to come (sounds like someone I know) while the other sister, Mary, was at His feet loving Him and listening for His teachings.

Be careful that you don’t become Martha and believe me, it’s easy to do. The work at Faith House is key in my purpose. For me to create an inviting place for women to come is important to me. But, it will just be a place without the Lord there to speak. How will I know what He wants if I don’t take time to listen for His direction? What will the house mean to women who come, and I have nothing to share that I have learned?

Same for you. Your house is just a house. Your church is just a building. It’s the souls inside that know the Lord and are willing to hold your hand and walk your journey that are eternal.
