Anticpate a Miracle

The pelican waits on the dock because he expects the fish to surface. My cat watches out the window because she expects the birds to come to the feeder. We expect the sun to rise and the rain to fall. We know with certainty Monday is coming and the weekend is never long enough. So why is it that we don’t expect help with some of the major decisions and obstacles coming in our lives everyday? Miracles are all around us but we don’t even anticipate them. We don’t even expect God to show up in our everyday work environment. We think we have to do everything by ourselves.

In the book of John, we see that Mary Magdalene didn’t expect anything either. She went to the tomb of Jesus and when He spoke to her – she did not recognize Him. You see, she never expected Him to be there.

Expect Him. Just as He sends you signs from morning until night of His presence, expect Him to show up. Learn to sit back and be still. Ask for guidance. A dear friend of mine once agonized over a decision whether to change jobs. It would have been a promotion but she had so many issues with the new responsibilities, territory and absence of old rules and familiarity of old friends. So, I said, “Did you ask Him”? Moments passed……. The next day she called me and said, “You know you said to ask Him. It never occurred to me to ask Him. I thought I had to do this alone.”

You have never been nor are you now alone. There is a mighty presence that surrounds you. An entity with all of your answers. Expect Him and simply, ask.

“Woman”, He said, “why are you crying? Who is it you are looking for?”   John 20:15
