I had done everything right! I put out my weed control in the early spring, aerated my lawn and fertilized with the best you could get at our local hardware store. Hours of hard labor had gone into my lawn. And, here on this bright spring day….I stepped on my porch and ….they were back. Dandelions. Spotted through my yard were those bright yellow flowers. Though low to the ground, they are not hard to see. Everywhere – there was one here and two there. There was a heavy crop of them in areas where my weed control had apparently not completely covered the ground. And, I knew if I didn’t get them out – they would develop millions of seed for even MORE!
What had I done wrong? I weed. I feed. I even go around and dig them out with my trusty hoe. I do all the right things.
Our life is so much like these dandelions. We try to do everything right. We go to church. Read the Word. Pray. Ask for forgiveness. Spend time with spiritual friends. And, still – here it comes – temptations galore! An angry response. Jealousy of a friend’s weight loss or career success. Doubt. Fear. Lack of self-control. One crops up here and another one there.
Well, my friends, just like those dandelions, we can’t give up! Imagine what my yard (life) would look like if I just threw in the shovel! Hang in there and know you are not alone. Remind yourself even though those pesky little flowers keep coming back, it is never a reason to love them or live with them! Keep on weeding and seeding! God will keep on supplying you with the stamina to press on!
“….The one who sowed the good seed is the Son of Man. The field is the world, and the good seed stands for the sons of the kingdom. The weeds are the sons of the evil one, and the enemy who sows them is the devil. The harvest is the end of the age, and the harvesters are angels.” Matthew 13:37-39. Our Lord as He explains the parable of the weeds……
