Grounded in Love

What is it that sets some healthcare providers apart from others?

That was something that I contemplated on a recent hospital visit. I watched, listened and “felt” the different energies coming in and out of the room. The best word I can come up with to describe my discovery is “grounding.”

The difference in someone being able to ground me or let my spirit bounce all over the room (searching for some sort of security and some place to rest) was the beginning of healing for me.

My first nurse was excellent in asking the right questions and giving the right answers, but she had no clue about grounding.

My second nurse was so busy bouncing around the room herself that she could not possibly ground me.

hand holding heartMy third nurse got it. She came into the room – in complete awareness of me and not of her tasks or of her own agenda. She stood still and looked me straight in the eye. And, at once, my spirit stopped bouncing and I met her – one on one. I became grounded. Secure. Comfortable.

She listened to me. She acknowledged me. She was all about me. I trusted her.

We could all use a lesson in grounding whether we work in healthcare, in banking or at a bakery. The next time you have the opportunity to work with or simply be with someone in need, make an intention to meet them where they are and put your own agenda aside. Get to the tasks at hand, but first ground them in a place of knowing they are safe with you. You are with them. You will not leave them. They can trust you.

We are all in need of being connected far beyond a physical place and with a power more compassionate than we can ever know or imagine.

I pray that out of His glorious riches He may strengthen you with power through His Spirit in your inner being so that Christ may dwell in your hearts through faith. And I pray that you, being rooted and established in love, may have power, together with all the saints, to grasp how wide and long and high and deep is the love of Christ, and to know this love that surpasses knowledge that you may be filled to the measure of all the fullness of God.” Ephesians 3: 16-19
